Bluestacks for mac not working. I kicked it off on Windows in the mid 90s and since then I have played it on the Sega Saturn, Sony PlayStation, Super Nintendo and Game Boy Advance to name a few. I even ran an unofficial port on my Nintendo DS called ‘DS Doom’ as well as a Symbian port many years ago.

I enjoyed Doom Legacy a couple of years back which featured enhanced glide supported graphics. Recently I have been playing it on my MacBook Air running Yosemite/El Capitan using the PrBoom front end.

I picked up the Doom 3 BFG Edition for my PlayStation 3, which also contains the original Doom and Doom 2. Even more recently I decided to download it for my iPhone, so I could enjoy it on the go.

Doom Classic for iOS is available in the App Store at a cost £3.99. It is only the first instalment of the series and for what it is, it might seem a bit pricey.

iOS

Being a 20+ year old game, it is no surprise that even on older iPhones it runs fine. I have tried it on an iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 (both running iOS 9.3.5) and it plays with no issue – and loads almost instantly.

It requires iOS 6.1 – so could possibly run on an iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 too.

Controls

Playing games on an iPhone or iPad lacks the obvious controls. Instead navigation and firing is done via onscreen buttons. You have three options for controls to choose from. All of which are a little tricky to use, but you do get used to them quickly. Movement is very fast and navigation can be a little difficult at times.

I’m not a huge player of mobile games – perhaps I just haven’t developed with this new breed of gaming. I much prefer the keyboard/mouse combo of old.

Graphics/Sound

This is a game from 1993 so you don’t expect the graphics to be stunning – however the small screen helps deal with the pixelated look. The gameplay is so superb you forget about the blocky sprites and immerse yourself in the game.

Compared to playing it on a 32” TV, the graphics look a lot better. The original sound effects and brilliant music is still there.

Game Play

This is where the original Doom series still stands the test of time. No matter how many times I have played and completed it, I go back to it time and time again and seek it out on new platforms.

Conclusion

If you want a decent FPS for your phone, you can do no better. The original Doom still gets my vote as one of the best games ever and it now great I can play it while out and about.

The change in controls might be a stumbling block for some – but this is the world of modern mobile gaming. Grab it and and have some retro fun.

DOOM on the PCwasfull of issues at launch less than a week ago. One of the most common problems that gamers are experiencing is that the game won't launch. Despite pressing play and Steam registering players as playing the game, nothing happens. Here are three methods that could fix this issue.

Please note: There is no guarantee that any of these methods will fix the problem, but each of them have worked for some players.

Install or Reinstall your latest graphic drivers

The first method of fixing the problem is installing or reinstalling your latest graphics drivers. DOOM uses the most recent version of OpenGL, which requires the latest drivers to open the game properly. This method should be the first one you attempt before trying any other.

Nvidia users can down their drivers here. For AMD Radeon users, they can download the latest driver here.

If you are unsure as to what your graphics card make and model is, you can easily find out by following the steps below.

Right click on My Computer, then left click on Properties.
Click on Device Manager on the top right of the opened window.
Click on Display Adapters in the Device Manager window and it will show what graphics card and model you are using.

After installing or reinstalling the latest drivers, restart your computer. Once this is complete, hopefully DOOM will launch.

Reinstall the DOOMx64.exe file

This method is more of a roundabout way of getting the game to work, but is successful for some players. There may be a problem with the application file that stops it from launching the game. Deleting it and reinstalling it may fix this issue. Follow the steps below to remove and reinstall the file without having to download the entire game again.

Go into your Steam folder. (This is found in program files unless moved by the owner of the PC)
Double click on the steamapps folder followed by the common folder.
Search for the DOOM folder and double click on it.
Inside the DOOM folder is a file called DOOMx64. Just right click and delete the file.
Log into your Steam account and go to your library.
Right click on DOOM and click on Properties
Click on local files tab in the Properties window and then click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Once your computer has finished scanning all of DOOM's files it will find the DOOMx64 file is missing, and it automatically begins to download. Once it has completed downloading, restart your computer. Log back into Steam and attempt to launch DOOM and hopefully this will fix the issue.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the game

This method is everyone's worst nightmare when it comes to a game of DOOM's size, but it has worked in some cases. Only use this method as an absolute last resort. If nothing else works, this is the last thing you should attempt to do to fix the game from not launching.

All manner of things can go wrong when downloading a game, file corruption included. A complete fresh re-installation of the entire game could be the cure to your plight.
